The students are split up into teams of five, with an adult with each team. Using the STIXX machine to make the newspaper rods and using masking tape, each team follows full written instructions to make one of six different homes; a Traditional House, a Wigwam, a Tent, a Tower Block, a Round House and an Igloo. The homes are big enough for one student at a time to get into. The structures can be left up at the end of the activity, but they do fill up a lot of space! Some schools get a team or two to make STIXX Rockets instead of a Home. It is also possible mix teams so some do Playground Structures at the same time, however the introduction to cover Homes, Playground Structures and Forces gets a little long! After I have finished the activity the Homes can be painted and waterproofed.
